Bohemian 4th February, Liverpool to Portland
(Borland) Bohemian had a long stormy passage, and as she approached
Portland, she passed the lighthouse on Cape Elizabeth in fog, and
ran across a rocky shoal, tearing a large hole. Captain Borland tried
to beach her, but she sank 200 yards from shore. While abandoning
ship, one lifeboat capsized with the loss of twenty Irish emigrants
lives. |
