The Norwegian-America Line ship Kristianiafjord, Captain Hjortdahl, departed New York, NY, eastbound to Norway via Halifax, on July 7th 1917 with about 900 passengers. On July 15th 1917 she was wrecked near Cape Race with no loss of life. On July 28th the ship was destroyed in a storm, before she was able to be refloated. Declared a total loss August 1st 1917.

Meigle, Reid Newfoundland Co., Captain C. Cross, from St. John's, Nfld. 1917-07-21 arrived North Sydney, N.S. 1917-07-23

Part of the crew of the wrecked Kristianiafjord. Thirty-two mostly Norwegian passengers, who had been to Canada before "Halifax for 4 days in 1917," the vessel had been held by the British Authorities in Halifax from Monday until Friday prior to the grounding, however, the crew had not been allowed to disembark. The Meigle arrived at 8.30 am. and the passengers departed by ICR railway, at 9.15 pm. the same day. This group may have been planning to proceed to Halifax to join the Kristianiafjord passengers, who had been taken directly from St. John's, Nfld. to board the Swedish-American Line ship Stockholm, which took them to Gothenburg.
