barque Dockenhuden, 335 tons, Captain J.H.O. Meyer, from Hamburg 20th November 1851, arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 26th February 1852

The South Australian Register, Friday February 27th 1852:—
Arrival: Thursday February 26th, the barque Dockenhuden, 335 tons, Meyer, from Hamburg the 20th November. Passengers. Franz, Charlotte and Elizabeth Schmidt . . . . then from The Argus (Victorian newspaper) Friday March 26th 1852 the following, March 25th - Dockenhuden, barque. 400 tons, J. Meyer, Commander, from Hamburg via Adelaide 13th instant. Passenger Cabin, Dr. F.E.Seidel, Mr. W. Pein, Mr. R. Redtwitz and one hundred and twenty in the steerage. . . . then from the Sydney Shipping Gazette, April 24th 1852: April 19th.— Dockenhuden, barque, 335 tons, Captain Meyer, from Melbourne 13th instant. Passenger.— Miss Boehme. Cargo: 110 baskets Seltzer water, 6000 bricks, 1 case wine, order, part of original cargo ; 311 bags copper ore, 96 bags copper regulus, 147 ingots, 180 tiles, 84 cakes copper, 2 cases gum, 1 case wine, order, shipped at Adelaide.
Dockenhuden :
owned by J. C. Godeffroy ; built in 1848. registered at Hamburg. On 3rd August 1853, on voyage from Melbourne to Batavia (Jakarta) in ballast and a crew of 14, missed stays when off Cato Reef, Coral Sea, and having no room to wear, struck the reef and became a total wreck. The crew spent 15 days repairing the ships' boats before leaving for Moreton Bay, which was reached on 27 August.

An index from the State Library South Australia (SLSA) shows that 200 German migrants should have been aboard the Dockenhuden ; I have been able to find 137 as listed below. However, the Dockenhuden did sail on to Melbourne with 120 + German migrants. The second part of this list has names which came from a variety of sources, but not enough information was found to support inclusion in the South Australian List. — Regards Robert, Adelaide
