Return to German Emigrants to South Australia

brig Iserbrook, 160 tons, Commander P. Shinckel, from Hamburg 1862 via Port Louis, Mauritius, 1st January 1863, arrived at Port Adelaide 15th February 1863

The South Australian Advertiser, Tuesday 17 February 1863, p. 2

The Iserbrook is listed as having 16 passengers on board for the Cape and Adelaide, however the newspaper reported she only had cargo from Hamburg via Port Louis carrying 5388 bags of sugar, 7 bags dates, J. Derwent.

During 1862 the number of ships that sailed from Hamburgh with emigrants for tbe Australian Colonies was I4 and the number of emigrants, 1132. For Adelaide, the Grasbrook brought 34 passengers, and the Adolph 12. The San Francisco brought 193 for Adelaide and Melbourne ; and the Iserbrook 16 for the Cape and Adelaide. The principal shipments were for Moreton Bay.

note.— There are very few surviving original lists of German passengers, so the data has to be compiled from a variety of sources, such as contemporary newspaper(s), internet sources, input from descendants and the South Australian Heraldry Genealogy society, (SAGHS).
