Tuesday January 16th, 1855:- the ship Magdelana, 870 tons, Brenton, Master, from Plymouth October 11th [1854], Doutty, Heward and Co., Agents.
Passengers: Mrs. Gibson ; Mr. & Mrs. Symonds ; Mr. J. Bury, surgeon-superintendent in the cabin and the following emigrants in the steerage. . . .
2nd ship from England to S.A. with government passengers for 1855 ; 6 births and 4 deaths on the passage ; John Carleton Bury, surgeon-superintendent.

ship Magdelana
Sailed from Plymouth on the 11th October and arrived on the 16th January, having been ninety eight days at sea. She landed in the Colony 326 souls. Four deaths and six births occurred before disembarkation. There were seventy nine young women on board, almost all of whom were Irish. The people were brought out in very good order.
