Return to German Emigrants to South Australia

barque Prince George, 317 tons, Captain Frederick Bigger Chilcott, from Hamburg 8th July 1838, via Plymouth 23rd to 31st July, arrived at Holdfast Bay 18th November 1838 & Port Adelaide, South Australia two to three days later, Dr. Drescher, ships' surgeon.

South Australian, Saturday 24th November, 1838

"We have been gratified by a visit to the ship Prince George, just arrived from Hambro', with a large number of German emigrants. The vessel is in the highest order, and the emigrants have come out happy and contented, and express themselves fully satisfied with their kind treatment. Great praise is due the Captain and to Mr Flaxman (the supercargo) for their unremitting attention to the passengers on the voyage."

note.— There are very few surviving original lists of German passengers, so the data below has been compiled from a variety of sources, such as contemporary newspaper(s), internet sources, input from descendants and the South Australian Heraldry Genealogy society, (SAGHS).
I know the list is incomplete and may contain errors, so any feedback with additions or corrections, will be most appreciated. Please contact me using the link above. Regards Robert, Adelaide

additional information: The Prince George was a barque, built at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1828. See the Wikipedia article about this early German emigration . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Kavel . . . The Prince George also carried the Thiele family, who are connected to Robert's family, see details http://www.janmaet.com/
