The Fleets

Canadian National Steamship Company

CNCanadian National Steamship Company was owned by Canadian National Railway Co. and operated services between Montreal / Halifax and the West Indies and to Australia (until 1936). They also ran Vancouver to Alaska routes.

In 1928 the company took over the management of most of the fleet from Canadian Government Merchant Marine Ltd.

In 1936 the Australia service was taken over by Port Line, Ellerman & Co. and New Zealand Shipping Co. who formed the Montreal, Australia, New Zealand (MANZ) Line. The Vancouver services were not successful and were short lived.

"Lady Boats" Besides cargo services, the LADY boats ran a popular passenger service between Montreal / Halifax and West Indies ports until 1958 when Canadian Union troubles caused these ships to be re-registered in Port of Spain, Trinidad and shortly afterwards sold to Cuba.
