The Fleets

Colombian Steamship Company / Colombian Line

Between 1918 and 1921 the U.S. Shipping Board established several routes and services and one of these was the American Colombian Line, managed by the Clyde Steamship Co. This led to a trade war with United Fruit Co. and it was agreed that the Caribbean trade of Clyde SS Co. would be separated from their domestic coastal trade. The Colombian Steamship Co., New York was then formed to operate a route from New York to Puerto Colombia, Cartagena and later to Haiti. The service expanded to the Leeward and Windward Islands and later to Brazil and other U.S. East Coast ports. In 1938 Colombian Line was consolidated with Grace Line which led to the extinction of Colombian Line as a seperate entity.
