Fabre Line / Compagnie Francaise de Navigation a Vapeur Cyprien Fabre & Compagnie

In 1881 the Compagnie Francaise de Navigation a Vapeur Cyprien Fabre & Compagnie was formed. They had been shipowners since 1865 of a small fleet of sailing ships and, since 1871, of some small steamers, mostly in the Mediterranean trade. Fabre Line ran a service between Marseilles and the West Indies and Central America from 1878-1881. The service was withdrawn in 1881 and North and South America sailings substituted. New Orleans voyages were made from 1887 until 1903. South America service was withdrawn in 1905. New York passenger sailings were discontinued in 1934, thereafter cargo only was carried. In 1933, the name was changed to Compagnie Generale de Navigation a Vapeur.
