The Fleets London & New York SS Line The first company to operate a service of first class screw steamers between London and New York commenced operations in 1863. It's principal owners were Malcolmson Bros. of Waterford, Ireland. Sailings continued until 1871 when the company closed down, the principal reason given was that they had overestimated the cargo requirements of the London - New York trade.
