This family was from county Fermanagh (eastern
part ?) in Northern Ireland, and initially settled
in Clarke Township, Durham County, Upper Canada, then moved
to Peterborough County circa 1828 after Thomas, his nephew,
and his two oldest sons obtained land grants there (Otonabee Township, Duoro
Township and the Town of Peterborough). Thomas who was described in some Durham
land records as an Innkeeper, obtained some land on King Street
in Peterborough, and
constructed a building there.
They most likely arrived at Quebec on July 5th aboard the bark Hamilton, Captain
Williams, 45 days from Belfast with 245 settlers, or
on July 7th aboard the
bark Mary,
Captain
Clark, which departed Belfast May 10th, with 202 settlers.

1. William Beavis, abt. 19, born circa 1804
2. Francis Beavis, abt. 18, born circa 1805
3. Francis Beavis, abt. 18, born circa 1805 (nephew of Thomas)
4. Margaret Beavis, under 12 years, born before 1811 ? (daughter
of
Thomas & Elizabeth)
5. Thomas Beavis, abt. 3, born circa 1820 (unsure of first name)
6. Jane E. Beavis, abt. 1, born circa 1822
As far as the contributor can determine, this was the first Beavis family to
settle
in
Canada.

Ottawa] . . . see also the 1825 arrival of Thomas' elder brother John
&
family. |
