Loyalist Ships

The Argo Transport, from St. Augustine, Florida destined to Chedabucto, Guysborough County, arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia July 13th 1784.

This list comprises only seventy-three persons of the estimated two hundred and sixty, both black and white, who arrived aboard the Argo. These people had originally fled from the Carolinas or Georgia and were or had been Loyalists, but were now Refugees. They were from the Duke of Cumberland's Regiment and were referred to as the "St. Augustine Loyalists" and arrived at Halifax in an impoverished and distressed state. They are thought to have arrived at Halifax on July 29th 1784, however this list showing the grants of land in Guysborough County, is dated July 15th 1784.
