Anchor Line ship Castalia, Captain Butler, sailed from Glasgow
April 25th 1873 and arrived at St. John, N.B. May 10th 1873 with the
first
group of "Scotch Colonists" to New Brunswick (read
the voyage report)
These immigrants settled in Woodstock, Kincardine, Bon Accord,
Kintore
and other towns in New Brunswick, soon after their arrival. Some did return
to
Scotland, including the Morrison family whose baby Castalia
was born on April 30th, during the passage. The list below is extracted from
a booklet entitled "The Scotch Colony The Story of 1873" with the steerage passenger
names cited as having been furnished by Messrs. Scammel Bros. (ship-brokers).
Many thanks to Stephen Frye who provided us with a copy of pp. 14-20 of the
booklet.
