This family was from county Fermanagh in Northern Ireland, and initially settled in Hope Township, Durham County, Upper Canada. John and his two oldest sons obtained land grants in Peterborough County (Otonabee Township), but John died about 1828. At least one of John's sons remained in Durham County - the remainder of the family had moved to Otonabee Township by 1830. Ellen remarried and John's oldest son seems to have cared for his younger siblings for several years.
They most likely arrived at Quebec on July 10th aboard the ship Comet, Captain Hylton, which departed Belfast May 3rd, with 204 settlers.

John Beavis, abt. 50, born circa 1775
wife Ellen, abt. 32 (2nd wife), born circa 1792
1.  William Beavis, abt. 22, born circa 1803 (son of John)
2.  Francis Beavis, abt. 20, born circa 1805 (son of John, remained in Durham County)
3.  Thomas Beavis, abt. 15, born circa 1810 (son of John)
4.  Rebecca Beavis, abt. 8, born circa 1817 (daughter of John)
5.  James Beavis, abt. 7, born circa 1818 (son of John)
6.  Edward W. Beavis, abt. 5, born circa 1820 (son of John and Ellen)
7.  Adam Beavis, abt. 2, born 1823 (son of John and Ellen) [contributor's GG grandfather]
John had another daughter (Jane) born about 1807 and another son (John) born about 1809 who also immigrated to Upper Canada.
