The Fleets

Società Italo Platense

A short lived Italian passenger company founded in Genoa in 1868 by Captain Antonio Oneto with the financial backing of Italian residents in Argentina. Three new ships were ordered and sailings commenced in 1870 from Genoa to South American ports. Intense competition from the Italian Lavarello Line and French S.G.T.M caused the steamers to be laid up in Genoa and the fleet was sold in 1876.
